Thai Yoga and Meditation

Coming in 2014 Thai Yoga is different from the mainstream yoga traditions found in the west (and also found in Thailand). Rather the Thai Yoga, also known as Rue Sri Dat Dton (hermit self-stretching exercises) is based on a tradition that was active in Southeast Asia before the 11th century ascent of the Theraveda tradition in the mainland Southeast Asia. It had been incorporated into itinerant religious tradition. Meditation in Thailand also has a different origin from that found in the mainstream meditations traditions in the west. Foreigners are more familiar with Mahayana traditions, such as Tibetan buddhism and Zen. Instead, the main framework for meditation found in Thai buddhism is based on the Theraveda traditions of Sri Lanka.
